Rosa-Lea's Newborn Photoshoot

Rosa-Lea was born in February 2018 and, as the niece of one of my closest friends, I was delighted when asked to photograph her in her first weeks of being with us.

Our photoshoot was all planned for the 2nd of March, which ended up being 8 days after Rosa-Lea’s Birthday, so we felt the date we chose was spot-on! the weather had different plans though – the “Beast from the East” was forecasted with heavy snow from the 26th of February for 5 days… and it didn’t even stop at 5!

Finally, on the 10th of March, just over 2 weeks into her life, we managed to meet to photograph baby Rosa. As a photographer, this makes things ever-so-slightly more challenging. When babies are in their first week-to-10 days you have an element of control. They’re not quite at a point where they're ready to invite themselves into every inch of spare-space around them, and they tend to quite like being in small, warm spaces. After that- we have a little adventurer on our hands, wriggling and stretching at every opportunity.

Being slightly older than we intended certainly didn't stop Rosa-Lea from being absolutely adorable. When your subject is so cute that you're welling up, you know that you've got an incredible subject. I think Mum, Terri, thought I was losing it!

A couple of my favourite accessories from our shoot included:

  • Dads favourite outfit for Rosa-Lea – her Tottenham Hotspur baby grow.

  • “Hello Little Cutie” ballerina outfit.

  • Ralph Lauren baby grow and matching hat.

  • Wooden vintage trunk (actually purchased as a card collection box for my Wedding!).

  • My now-favourite prop – the studio’s grey furry rug 😊

Ben and Terri – congratulations on your new arrival!
